Take yourself out on a date and check in!

Kaya – Hello!

I hope your first half of the year has turned out the way you hoped.

Possibly the first half of the year has gone that fast that you haven’t even taken time to reflect to see if the forward momentum you had planned for life this year has even occurred.

If this is you then do you think this week it is possible for you to make a date with yourself – take yourself out to lunch or dinner and check in?

Ask yourself 3 questions.

  • What’s working, and what do I want more of?
  • What’s not working, and what do I want less of?
  • Is there anything you want to do differently, and could you do it differently now?

I have the pleasure of having change conversations with people every day however I encourage everyone to take yourself out for a date and reflect/check in and ask yourself the important question to find out how you are going.

Knowing yourself is the key to your personal success.  Reflection supports introspection which offers you understanding, presence of and search for meaning in life.  Allows for new directions to be created for your future self to become whatever you want you to be.  Research highlights the increased wellbeing and meaning people can achieve in their daily life through reflection as opposed to rumination (which often is confused with reflection in my experience).  https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0191886917304294

Looking inwardly may be thought to be selfish, egotistical and for the self-involved.  It may also be scary as we may not like what we find and may become overwhelmed with it.  All of this is for great debate however when you look at people who have succeeded and achieved their life goals/stories and missions around the world there is always self-reflection and redirection involved.  I have learned through my own journey that you can only make the change when you are ready, willing and have support around you to change the things that may not fit you or give you energy any more.

If you’d like to explore how to check in with yourself and create meaningful changes for the future you envision, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us via our contact form.

Additionally, if you are curious and wonder what Kaya is – it is Hello in Noongar language – Aboriginal people from the south west region of Western Australia.

The Surprises We Don’t See Coming

A new week begins, and I’m starting it with a full heart. Over the weekend, a Zesty reached out to share something that genuinely moved me. They’ve been following along with the 21‑Day Empathy Challenge — especially Days 8, 9, and 10, where we explore listening...

Beginning the Week With Empathy in Motion

As we step into a new week — and for many, a slower public‑holiday Monday — there’s a quiet opportunity to notice how we’re arriving. This feels especially meaningful right now because our 21‑Day Empathy Challenge has officially begun, and the group is already leaning...

Reflection: The Quiet Skill That Shapes Safe, Sustainable Nursing

Last week I had time to work alongside nursing students as they unpacked their placement experiences — the moments that stretched them, surprised them, unsettled them, and taught them something new about who they are becoming as future nurses. The reason I do this is...

Holding Steady When the World Feels Heavy

It feels like the world is carrying a lot right now. The ripple effects of conflict, war, displacement, and political tension are reaching into our homes, workplaces, and conversations. Even if we’re not directly affected, we feel the emotional aftershocks — the...

Nurturing Our Energy: Why Empathy Needs Space to Breathe

Welcome to April!!!! Time is very precious as it seems to be moving faster than I have ever been aware of before.  I know that this can be explained away by Neuroscience and I won’t bore you with that detail today. However, as we move through April, I will be thinking...

Easter Is Approaching: A Gentle Invitation to Pause?

As Easter approaches, many people turn toward familiar traditions, rituals, or celebrations. For others—like me—the meaning of this long weekend is less about religion and more about the rare gift of time. A small pocket in the year where the world slows down just...
