Our Zesty Resources

How can you grow your YAY today?

This week, ZestAgain is in Melbourne connecting with educators and exploring the concept of Compassion Satisfaction. I’m incredibly thankful to Home Economics Australia for inviting me to share insights on cultivating awareness and curiosity—essential ingredients for building a sense of fulfillment and wellbeing in our lives and our work.

Zestagain with sarah z

The day kicked off with an inspiring keynote from Sarah Davidson, host of the ‘Seize the Yay!’ podcast. Her energy was infectious, and I found myself completely aligned with her message about embracing the journey of life. Sarah spoke beautifully about the ever-evolving puzzle pieces that make up who we are—how they shift and transform as we grow.

It resonated deeply with me, as this is exactly the kind of work I do with individuals: helping them unpack their current self through the lens of values, strengths, personality traits, patterns, habits, and systems.

We lay all those pieces out to better understand who we are in the present moment, and then—with curiosity and courage—we begin to shape what we want for the future.

And that’s where the magic happens: being brave enough to rearrange those pieces, allowing change, to evolve, and to keep what Sarah calls “OUR YAY!” front and center.

Here are a few simple ways to keep your Yay in focus:

1. Start with Gratitude

Begin each day by acknowledging three things you’re grateful for—big or small. It shifts your mindset from scarcity to abundance and sets a positive tone

2. Move Your Body

Whether it’s a walk, a stretch, or a dance break in your kitchen, movement releases feel-good chemicals and helps shake off stress.

3. Connect Authentically

Reach out to someone you care about. A quick message, a shared laugh, or a heartfelt chat can instantly boost your mood.

4. Do One Thing Just for You

Carve out a moment for something that brings you joy—reading, painting, gardening, or simply sipping your favourite tea in peace.

5. Be Curious, Not Critical

Instead of judging yourself or your day, ask: “What’s interesting about this moment?” Curiosity opens the door to wonder and joy.

The Power of Small Moments That Give Us Space to Think
