Celebrating Life, Possibility, and the Magic of Beginning Again

Last week at ZestAgain, we were reminded of one of life’s greatest gifts — new life.

A valued team member welcomed a beautiful baby girl safely into the world, and we are deeply grateful that everyone is healthy and well. Moments like this soften the edges of our busy lives. They remind us that possibility arrives in abundance when new life enters the room.

A newborn carries pure potential. She could become anything. Her future is wide open, unshaped, full of promise. And it makes you wonder — what changes along the way for the rest of us?

  • Where do we lose sight of our own possibility?
  • Where do we get stuck?

Where people commonly get stuck

  • Time passing without mindful noticing
  • Work demands that swallow the day
  • Caring for kids, partners, parents
  • Emotional fatigue from supporting others
  • Habitual “soldiering on”
  • Overwhelm disguised as productivity
  • Forgetting to check in with ourselves
  • Putting our wellbeing last on the list
  • Not having space to dream, imagine, or plan

These are normal human experiences — especially in caring professions. But they can quietly shrink our sense of possibility if we don’t interrupt them.

So how do we get possibility back?

This week, I invite you to take yourself on a date.

Yes — an actual date with yourself.

  • Sit somewhere calm.
  • And make one small goal about you — your health, your wellness, your life.

If you get stuck, ask yourself the magic question:

If I could wave a magic wand and make one thing better for me tomorrow, what would that be?

Whatever pops into your mind first — that’s your truth.
Take that magical thought and chunk it down into small, doable parts.
That’s how possibility returns.
Not through big leaps, but through gentle, intentional steps.

I’d love to hear what you’re making possible.

Pop your magical thought in the chat below — let’s celebrate the beginnings, the dreams, and the quiet courage it takes to choose yourself again.

The Power of Small Moments That Give Us Space to Think

In the fast, relentless pace of healthcare and education, it’s easy to forget something simple and profoundly human: we need space to think.  Not an hour. Not a retreat. Not a whole afternoon.Just small, intentional moments that let the nervous system breathe. Over...

Thank You to the Teams Showing Up for Themselves

Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the privilege of spending time with teams across the Children’s Hospital, Gold Coast University Hospital, and NSW Health in Broken Hill. What has struck me again and again is the sheer heart, grit, and generosity of the people who...

Winter’s Quiet Invitation to Slow Down

Today marks the first day of winter — a season our bodies understand far more deeply than our calendars do. Even in a busy, always‑on world, winter carries an ancient message: slow down, turn inward, and restore. Humans were never designed to power through the darker...

The Surprises We Don’t See Coming

A new week begins, and I’m starting it with a full heart. Over the weekend, a Zesty reached out to share something that genuinely moved me. They’ve been following along with the 21‑Day Empathy Challenge — especially Days 8, 9, and 10, where we explore listening...

Beginning the Week With Empathy in Motion

As we step into a new week — and for many, a slower public‑holiday Monday — there’s a quiet opportunity to notice how we’re arriving. This feels especially meaningful right now because our 21‑Day Empathy Challenge has officially begun, and the group is already leaning...

Reflection: The Quiet Skill That Shapes Safe, Sustainable Nursing

Last week I had time to work alongside nursing students as they unpacked their placement experiences — the moments that stretched them, surprised them, unsettled them, and taught them something new about who they are becoming as future nurses. The reason I do this is...
